The Editor is a magnificent saber with an ancient feel. I gave it this name because its previous owner edited what was once such a simple hilt, into such a beautiful design, thus granting this special hilt the name, Editor.

Weight: 0.88 lbs
Length: 11.02 inches
Blade OD: 1

Excellent Saber! Detailed Review.

I’ve wanted a hyper realistic lightsaber since I was little. For years I’d watched Theory’s videos and seen his incredible sabers, and I always wanted one, but they were expensive for a college student. When the deal for 2 FREE training sabers came around though, I knew the time had come!

I’m going to give a full review of my experience from the browsing of the website to the actual experience of swinging the sabers around, and I’ll highlight areas of constructive feedback, because I know Theory takes that seriously and genuinely wants to always improve.

To begin, I wanted to say that one major reason I decided to purchase a Theory saber rather than some other brand’s is because I appreciate Theory’s authentic nature, honesty, courage in speaking his mind, and extremely entertaining videos (including the Vader fan films, which required enormous amounts of work, time, and sacrifice). I tip my hat to you, Theory.

So once I saw the May 4th sale to get 2 free training sabers with a purchase of a regular saber, I decided to finally get my hands on some. But I needed to decide which one! This is where my first two points of constructive feedback come in. The first is that the user interface for the website was slightly confusing when trying to sort through all the types of sabers, particularly on a mobile device. The technical terminology of some of the saber parts and specifications was a little hard to understand at first, though descriptions did help.

The second bit of feedback is just regarding the price. My order ended up costing almost exactly $300, which is an acceptable price with the 2 free sabers deal that was going on, but I don’t think I would have been able to convince myself it was worth it without that deal. Having more options on the cheaper end (perhaps with fewer saber features to adjust for cost) would be great for people with lower incomes.

Once I placed my order, I was so excited that I checked my order status every day! This is where my third bit of feedback comes in. There was never any update about the shipping status; the order just showed up one day! I was way too excited when it arrived to really be upset about it, but I do think it’s a potential area of improvement. Having reliable tracking information would have gotten me even more excited as I saw it getting closer.

Once I got the sabers, I was practically giddy with excitement. It felt like Christmas. I first did a thorough unboxing, examination, etc of everything, and I enjoyed the sleek design of the box and collector’s stand. Once the sabers were charged up (which does take a while. Not sure if this is possible to change, but obviously a faster and longer lasting charge would be ideal) I tested out all the sweet effects!

The instruction booklet was certainly helpful, but I do have one but of feedback: it wasn’t entirely accurate. Perhaps this exact saber has slightly different settings, or perhaps the booklet is a little out of date. I’m not sure, but I did notice a couple of the instructions about how long to hold the button for or whatever were not accurate. I eventually figured everything out on my own, but that would be a good improvement.

The various sounds, light effects, contact effects, etc were awesome! I played around with them for a while and just had fun. My wife and I took the three sabers out for duels, and they handled beautifully. There are two minor points of feedback regarding dueling performance:
1. The blades of all three sabers became a bit scuffed after dueling. I am not sure if this is avoidable, but ideally there would be no visible changes to the blade from dueling. I did try cleaning the blade with the bag, but the tiny scuffs aren’t cleanable. Overall, you can barely tell they are there most of the time, so it’s not the end of the world, but an even more durable blade would be epic.

2. The Editor saber comes with motion activated effects, including powering on and off the blade. This would be fine if they worked as intended. Unfortunately, mine is temperamental about responding to the twist motion to turn on/off, so I cannot reliably get it to do so with motions. Worse though is that the blade randomly turns off during dueling sometimes, because it mistakes my twirling as the twisting that is designed to turn the blade off. Since the motions weren’t working as intended, I wanted to turn them off, since I don’t personally care much about having them, but this would require programming the chip via a computer. It’s doable, but it’s kind of a pain in the butt. I know some other Theory sabers have a way to turn on/off the motion activated effects just using the button on the saber, and that would be a great option here. Overall, I’d say just ensure the motion effects work extremely accurately (this would be the ideal) or have a way to easily turn them off.

In conclusion, I love my sabers and Theory, but there is a little room for improvement.

near perfect experience.

4th of july sale. 2 week delivery.
3 sabers for $300. If you are fully aware of what the training sabers are in the bogt sale, you won't be disappointed.
I showed the kids my e22 editor. they were happy.
I then handed each of them the training sabers and they went nuts. the simple options are perfect.

my only nitpick is that I bought the e22 editor based on the cold blue steel looking color. My photo shows black metals. still looks awesome.
